As a mom, keeping my kids entertained and engaged is always a top priority. I’ve discovered that one of the best ways to keep them occupied is through DIY laminated activities. Not only are they easy to make, but they’re also durable and reusable.

Which Laminator Should I Get?

Purchasing my own laminator was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’s inexpensive, easy to use, and helps to create activities that kids can do multiple times.

The Scotch Thermal Laminator will laminate items up to 9 in wide. It is a 2 roller system that has two temperature settings. It is photo quality and will laminate up to 5 mil thickness pouches.

I bought the Scotch Thermal Laminator Combo Pack, which includes 20 Letter-Size Laminating Pouches and holds sheets up to 8.9″ by 11.

What Other Items Do I Need For Laminating Activities?

You will most likely want more than 20 laminating pouches, so I also recommend buying the Scotch Thermal Laminating Pouches 100-Pack. This will last you a while, at a good price.

Types of DIY Laminated Activities

I started by printing off random templates I thought my kids would enjoy. There are so many options if you search online. I think about my kids interests, different themes, holidays- the possibilities are endless! Check out the site Kids Can Have Fun for a huge variety of templates. My kids also love Basic Body Outlines, so they can create their own people.

You can also laminate different learning resources depending on your child’s age. Tracing lines, shapes, or letters would be perfect for toddlers. Matching rhyming words or fill in the blank activities would be great for preschoolers.

How Else Can I Use My Laminator?

  1. Matching Game

One of the easiest and quickest DIY laminated activities to make is a matching game. Simply print out two sets of images or patterns on cardstock paper, laminate them, and cut them out into smaller, matching pieces. This game is great for young kids and helps with cognitive development as they learn to recognize and match patterns.

  1. Tic Tac Toe

Tic Tac Toe is a classic game that kids of all ages can enjoy. To make a DIY laminated version, draw a Tic Tac Toe grid onto cardstock paper, laminate it, and use counters (like buttons or small toys) for the Xs and Os. This game is great for improving strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

  1. Road Maps

If your kids love playing with toy cars, then a DIY laminated road map is perfect for them. Simply draw out different roads and intersections onto cardstock paper, laminate it, and let your kids play with it using their toy cars. This activity is not only fun, but it also encourages imaginative play and helps with fine motor skills as they navigate their cars through the different routes.

  1. Playdough Mats

Playdough is always a hit with kids, but it can be messy and hard to clean up. A DIY laminated playdough mat solves this problem. Simply print out designs onto cardstock paper, laminate it, and provide your kids with playdough to create their own designs on the mat. This activity is great for improving creativity and fine motor skills.

  1. Chore Charts

For older kids, a DIY laminated chore chart is a great way to teach responsibility and accountability. Use cardstock paper to create a chart with various chores and tasks, laminate it, and use erasable markers to check off completed tasks. This activity helps to encourage a sense of accomplishment and teaches valuable life skills.
