Pool Day Essentials – Everything You Need For A Fun Day Of Swimming
Nothing says hot summer day quite like a dip in the pool! Whether you’re spending time in your own backyard or lounging at the community pool, having the right pool day essentials can make all the difference.
From sunscreen and sunglasses to snacks and pool toys, I’ll help you discover what items you should never forget as you prepare for a fun—and stress-free—day of swimming.
I’ve geared this post towards the pool, but several items are essentials when planning a beach trip too. This post is jam-packed with all the things to help make your summer pool day amazing!

LIST OF POOL DAY ESSENTIALS
CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES
Swimsuit. This One Piece Swimsuit fits great and would be good for all body types. You can find several good swimsuits on Amazon. Aerie is another great place to find cute swimsuits and my usual go-to. They are available in size long, which is great for those with long torsos. Athleta is also a popular place to shop for cute swimsuits.
Coverup. This White Crochet Coverup is perfect! It’s so simple, lightweight, and the crochet detail is adorable. I also love this Tie Dye Coverup and this Beige Coverup, all from Amazon.
Hat. Everyone needs a good summer hat for the pool and both of these are too cute! The White Straw Hat is adorable and has a great shape and fit. It comes in a couple more colors if you prefer something else. The other Straw Hat with Lanyard is perfect for a windy day!
Kids Hat. The kids need hats too and how cute are these?! Both are from Under Armour and fit really well. If you have babies or toddlers, I also recommend a Sun Hat for extra protection.
Sunglasses. These are my newest sunglasses from Amazon. Both are on the bigger side, which I like for my face shape. The Black Pair in the top picture fit great and The Brown Pair in the bottom picture came recommended and are so fun!
Kids Sunglasses. These Polarized Sunglasses are the absolute best! The fit is great and they have a slight bend to them, which is perfect for little kids slipping them on and off. They come in several colors.
POOL SAFETY
Sunscreen. One of the most important pool day essentials is sunscreen. These four brands of sunscreen are all ones that I’ve tried and liked. The Hawaiian Tropic provides great full body coverage and usually what we all start with. I will use the Sun Bum Spray throughout the day when I reapply. The Supergoop Glow Stick is awesome and great for your face, neck, and chest! And I stock up on Blue Lizard Sunscreen for the kids. This stuff works great, rubs in well, and is highly rated!
Chapstick. You also need a good chapstick with SPF. Sun Bum carries a variety pack and they are SPF 30.
Goggles. Help the kids protect their eyes with these TYR Goggles. They came recommended from the swim instructors where my kids take lessons. They aren’t expensive and my kids like them! Several colors to choose from online.
Flotation Devices. These are my personal recommendations for both baby and toddler floatation devices! We didn’t get this Baby Swim Float until we had Reagan and I so wish we had known about it when Ryan was a baby. It’s the best float and keeps babies happy when in the pool. They can see everything going on around them. The Stearns Puddle Jumper is a top-rated life jacket for young kids and has worked well for both girls.
Pool floats. These Kids Inflatable Pool Floats are the absolute best floats if you have kids at your pool. They get used all the time with friends who come over and I’m so glad we have them.
First Aid Kit. Who has been to the pool only for it to be ruined by a scraped knee? Kids are bound to get hurt running around at the pool, so make sure to have a first aid kit on hand.
POOL FUN
Swim Thru Rings. There are so many pool toys to choose from! The Swim Thru Rings are new this year and I’m excited to try them out since both kids going under water now.

Music. It’s always fun to have good music at the pool. This Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker is ranked high on consumer reports and Amazon.
MISCELLANEOUS
Water bottles. It is so important to drink a lot of water and staying hydrated. It’s even more important in the summer heat! My absolute favorite water bottle is the 40oz Simple Modern Tumbler. I use it almost every day. My kids love the ThermoFlask Water Bottles and so do I!
Hydration packets. Grab these Liquid I.V. packets for extra hydration! They contain an electrolyte drink mix that will help speed up hydration and they taste great 🙂
Towels. These Oversized Towels are so comfy and the colors are all so fun and vibrant!
Chairs. You can’t go wrong with the Tommy Bahama Backpack Chairs– my top choice.
Cooling Towel. These Cooling Towels will stay cool for up to 3 hours!
Cooler. This Cooler Backpack is new and I am so excited to try it out. It had several good reviews on Amazon and all the little compartments are great.
Phone case. A Waterproof Phone Case is always a good idea by the pool!
Self Tanning Lotion. This Self Tanning Kit includes all you need for the perfect sunless tan.
Bag. I absolutely love this Tote Bag! It’s the perfect size and has little compartments throughout.
Pool days are an excellent way to unwind, relax and reconnect with friends. They’re also a great opportunity to show off your latest swimwear! With this list of pool day essentials, you have all the gear you need to have a fantastic time in the sun.
