The Best Time Saving Tips for Busy Moms

1. Prep School Lunches in Advance

Take a few minutes each night and prep your child’s lunch for the next day. This will save you time and won’t cause added stress if something unexpected happens in the morning. It will also help ensure that your child has a healthy meal to take to school. Don’t forget to prep your own lunch too!

2. Get Up Early

This may not be possible every day, but getting up even 30 minutes earlier can make a big difference. Use this time to enjoy a cup of coffee, read the paper, or just take some time for yourself. You’ll be surprised how much more productive you can be when you start your day with a little me-time.

I love to take time in the morning for my Bible study. It sets the tone for a good day and it helps me to feel more prepared to handle whatever comes my way. 3. Establish A Morning Routine

A morning routine can help you get your day off to a good start and make sure that you’re not rushed or frazzled from the moment you wake up. Taking a few minutes to plan out your mornings and make sure everything is ready to go can save you time and stress later on.

It’s even more important to establish a good morning routine when the kids are in school. Make sure they know what they need to do and when they need to do it. That way, you can avoid arguments and tears in the morning. Check out these 10 Tips for a Stress-Free School Morning Routine.

4. Order Groceries Online

If you find yourself spending hours at the grocery store each week, consider ordering your groceries online. This will save you time and money by eliminating impulse purchases. You can also have them delivered right to your door!

5. Meal Plan

One of the best ways to save time is to come up with a realistic meal plan.

That’s why I created Plan-Prep-Eat—a meal planning e-book designed to take the stress out of mealtime and make the process work for real life.

In this e-book, I’ve laid out simple, practical steps to help you create a meal plan that fits your unique needs, no matter how busy life gets. 6. Do Not Overschedule

This is a big one, especially for moms. We often try to do too much and end up feeling overwhelmed. Learning to say no can be difficult, but it’s important. You don’t have to do everything! You will not only feel better, but your family will thank you.

7. Limit Your Own Screen Time

We are all guilty of spending too much time on our phones or laptops. But if you’re trying to be more productive, it’s important to limit your screen time. Set a timer and only allow yourself to be on your phone or computer for a certain amount of time each day. This will help you focus on the task at hand and avoid getting distracted by social media or other online distractions.

8. Develop A Cleaning Schedule

A cleaning schedule can help you stay on top of things and avoid feeling like your house is a disaster. Designate certain days or times for specific tasks and make sure everyone in the family knows what needs to be done. This will help you keep your home clean and tidy with minimal effort.

9. Give Kids Chores To Do

Kids are capable of doing more than we give them credit for. Assigning them chores can help teach responsibility and time management skills. It can also free up your time to focus on other things.

10. Plan Daily, Weekly & Monthly

When you’re busy, it’s important to have a plan. Most people understand this, but they don’t have a good system for planning. It’s best to plan in stages. I start with my monthly plans, then break it down by planning at the beginning of each week. And then I take it one step further where I have a plan for exactly what I need to do each day. This helps me stay on task and not get overwhelmed.

You can also check out the GTD Method. Getting Things Done (also know as the GTD method) is a self-management method developed by David Allen. In his book, Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, Allen writes about the 5 Steps To Getting Things Done, in which you record all your tasks in to-do lists. This method has helped people be more productive and less stressed.

11. Use A Calendar

Calendars are a great way to keep track of what’s going on and make sure you’re not over-scheduling yourself. I like to use a physical calendar that I can hang on the wall. This helps me see at a glance what’s going on each day, week, and month. This magnetic calendar is also great for weekly planning that the whole family can see.

I also love to create documents and spreadsheets in Google, so that I can keep things organized and available no matter where I am.

12. Make Sheet Pan Dinners

Sheet pan dinners are a time saver because they require minimal effort and cleanup. Simply put all of your ingredients on a baking sheet and bake! This is a great way to make a quick and healthy meal when you don’t have a lot of time.

13. Have A Solid Bedtime Routine

A solid bedtime routine can help you wind down at the end of the day and get a good night’s sleep. This means disconnecting from electronics, reading or journaling, and doing something to relax your mind and body. Taking time for yourself at the end of the day will help you feel refreshed and ready to tackle tomorrow.

14. Communicate Your Needs

This is an important one for moms. We often try to do everything ourselves and end up feeling overwhelmed. It’s important to communicate your needs to your family and ask for help when you need it. This will help everyone be on the same page and make life a little easier.

15. Eliminate Things That Waste Your Time

There are probably a lot of things in your life that waste your time. It could be things like watching TV, browsing the internet, or scrolling through social media. Take a close look at how you’re spending your time and see if there are any areas where you can cut back. This will help you have more time for the things that are truly important to you.
